Wilma Anne (Canada) Spence

July 27, 1934 — October 20, 2022

Burns Flat

Wilma Anne (Canada) Spence was born to Raymond and Daisy (Stevens) Canada of Edmond, Oklahoma on July 27, 1934, in Edmond, Oklahoma. She went to be with the Lord on October 20, 2022.

She grew up in the Edmond and Arcadia area but graduated high school in Elk City, Oklahoma. She was married to Vernon Spence of Arcadia, Oklahoma until his passing in 1995. She traveled throughout the continental United States and lived in Massachusetts, Oregon, California, Arizona, Wisconsin, Texas, and other places before returning to Oklahoma—first to Mangum in 1971 and then to Burns Flat in 1979.

She worked in the Mangum Abstract Office and with the State of Oklahoma Health Department in the Clinton office. She was a stay-at-home mom while her children were young.

She enjoyed her newspaper, working most crossword puzzles to completion every day, was an avid reader, and at one time she played the organ. She enjoyed her children and grandchildren, family reunions, board and card games, and for a time ceramics.

She grew up in the Central Christian Church but joined the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Burns Flat, Oklahoma in the 1990’s. She participated as part of the missions committee—to include committee chair—for as many years as she was able helping those in need in the community.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Daisy Canada, her siblings Fred Canada, Fern Meany, Melba Miller, and Dorothy Rouillard. She was the baby of the family.

She is survived by many, and all currently reside in Oklahoma. They are her son, Thomas Spence and wife Sharman Spence of Burns Flat, daughter, Cathy Spence Kirkland and husband Larry Kirkland of Burns Flat, grandchildren Heather Spence of Burns Flat, Erin Stevens of Burns Flat, Christopher Spence and wife Courtney of Burns Flat, Mathew Baker and wife Kristy Baker of Elk City, Amanda Swint and husband Matthew Swint of Sayre, Jason Kirkland and wife Belicia Kirkland of Sayre, and Buddy Baker of Elk City.

She is also survived by many great grandchildren: Dillon Baker, Kaitlyn Baker, Libby Spence, Logan Spence, Levi Spence, Lanny Spence, Lawson Spence, Arianna Kirkland, Mason Kirkland, Jason Kirkland Jr., Ethan Swint, Norma Swint, Susana Swint, Emily Swint, Adriannah Swint, and Stormie Williams.

Great great grandchildren are Jayden Kirkland, Landon Baker, Lynnasha Williams, and Jazziah Williams.

There are numerous people in the community who know Anne as Grandma.
