Walter Larry Coker

Walter Larry Coker, beloved son, brother, uncle, Dad, Grandpa, and Great Grandpa, returned home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 1, 2025 at SSM St. Anthony’s Hospital in Oklahoma City at the age of 77. 

Walter was born on August 29, 1947, in Seminole, OK to Thomas and Frances Coker. He graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 1965. Walter married the love of his life, Jo Ann (Douglas) on October 2, 1965. 

Walter started his working career at the age of 17, at Tinker AFB. He retired in 1989, after 28 years of service, as a Lead Flight Line Mechanic. Walter enjoyed being active as a Deacon of the Cedar Creek Eufaula Baptist Church.

Walter was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Ann (Douglas) Coker on July 18, 2020; son, Jason Coker on June 23, 2023; father, Thomas Coker; mother, Frances Coker; sisters, Maxine Trubsha, Dora Young and Thelma Coker and a brother, Sonny Coker. 

Surviving Walter are his sister, Mary McCormick; son and daughter-in-law, John and Carolyn Coker; daughter-in-law, Glenda Coker; grandchildren, Jason Coker Jr., Andrea Porthouse, Thomas Coker, Jacob Coker, Joe Coker and his wife Miranda and Lydia Coker; great grandchildren, ReNiya Coker, Jaella Coker, JaeVonni Coker, Alexander Coker, Messiah Coker, numerous nieces, cousins and a host of other family and friends.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, March 7, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Fairview Cemetery in Shawnee with Pastor Billy Foster officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be John Coker, Jason Coker, Jr., Thomas Coker, Joe Coker, Jacob Coker and Randy Winrow. Honorary bearers will be Walter's great-grandchildren JaeVonni Coker, Alexander Coker and Messiah Coker.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2025 from 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM at OK Cremation & Funeral Home, 2415 N. Walnut Ave., Oklahoma City.

Services are under the direction of OK Cremation & Funeral Home, Oklahoma City.
