Tulio C. Ramirez

May 5, 1931 — September 12, 2015

Tulio Cesar Ramirez passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on September 12, 2015. Tulio was born on May 05, 1931, to Cesar and Efigenia Ramirez in Mocupe, Chiclayo, Peru. He moved his family to the United States in 1963, settling in Oklahoma City where he met and learned the restaurant business from Luis Alvarado. Tulio eventually opened his own, El Chalan on S. Robinson. Later years he started the restaurant that bears his name, still operated by the family. Tulio took great pride in his business, and enjoyed visiting with customers, making many life-long friends.

Tulio was a charismatic and generous man. He loved to entertain and serve. He loved to dance and was expert at the marinera and tango, a trait that caught the eye of a young Carmen Marchena, the love of his life.  Tulio loved God and was faithful to the Catholic Church, attending as often as he could with his wife.

Above all, Tulio loved his family, and that love was unconditional. He worked to put 2 sons through college, traveled to Peru often to spend time with family, and loved his grandchildren to the moon and back. We will miss his laughter, the twinkle in his eye, his invaluable advice, but his love and his effect on our lives continues.

Tulio was preceded in death by his parents, his son Mario Luis, brothers Luis, Mario, Victor, Cesar, Jorge, Ernesto, sisters Berta, Carmencita, and Olga.

He is survived by his wife, Carmen, of the home, sisters Teresa and Maruja, son Tulio Edward and wife Sherri, grandchildren Madison Ramirez-Westendorf and husband Lucas, Tulio Luis Ramirez, step-granddaughter Jordon Winker and her son Marshall, great-grandson Everett Westendorf, and mucho mucho mas familia, primos y amigos.

A Service to celebrate Tulio’s life will be held Monday, September 21, at 1:00 PM at Crossroads Church, 8901 S. Shields.
