Steve VanCuren, 71, left this mortal realm on Sunday, October 27, 2024 at home, surrounded by family. We believe dad died to get out of making a decision in the contentious 2024 presidential election.
He left behind a hell of a lot of stuff for his kids, who have no idea what to do with it. So, if you are looking for 2 extremely large TVs from the 90s, a large ceramic flower pot (we think that’s what it is), umbrellas that don’t open, air fryer (slightly used), power scooter that doesn’t hold a charge, tools we aren’t sure what they are used for, 32 seasoning jars, 10 family packs of steak, 50 pounds of shrimp, 5 beers, and a multitude of other random items that would prove helpful in the event of a zombie apocalypse.
You should wait the appropriate amount of time and get in touch. Tomorrow would be fine.
This is not an ad for a pawn shop, but an obituary for a loved dad, brother, grandpa, pops, great grandfather, geezer, uncle born on March 31, 1953 in OKC, Ok. He leaves behind a very dysfunctional family that he was proud of (sometimes).
Dad was renowned for his lack of patience, not holding back his opinion and knack for telling it like it is. He always told his truth, even if it wasn’t what you wanted to hear.
Everyone always knew where you stood with him. He liked you or he didn’t. As his children, we are still trying to figure out which one it was for us (we know he loved us).
Dad was a master griller/smoker of meats, he loved to cook and share with all. We will definitely miss the random calls to “come get some ribs”, or smoked bologna for birthdays.
Dad volunteered for service in the U.S. Army at the ripe old age of 17 and immediately realized he didn’t much enjoy being bossed around. He only stuck it out for one war.
He will be sorely missed and survived by his sister and brother in-law, Coni Lee (VanCuren) and Jim Hammersley. 2 daughters, Stephenie (VanCuren) York and Kara VanCuren. 1 son, Mick VanCuren. 6 grandchildren, Kaleb, Cameron, Matthew, Gerty, Devin, and Gunner. 3 great grandchildren, Sawyer, Charlee, and Jiraiya. Many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lee Roy VanCuren. Mother, Florence (Day) VanCuren-Kelley. Brothers, Johnny Lee VanCuren and Roy Allen VanCuren.
Following his wishes, there will not be a funeral, but we will have a celebration of life at Prague Housing Authority Community Center on November 9, 2024 at 1pm. If you can not attend we encourage you to write a note of farewell on a Bush beer can and drink it in his honor.
Dad was never one for sentiment or religiosity, but wanted you to know that if he owes you a beer, and if you can find him in Heaven, he will gladly allow you to buy him another.
There will never be another like him, we will miss you greatly. A special thank you to the Cohesive Hospice team and also OK Cremation & Funeral Home.
