Sandy Munguia was born on January 29, 1942, in Los Angeles, California, to John and Willimae Anthony.
She attended Compton Senior High School and graduated with an associate degree in arts from Compton College in June 1961. Soon after, she became a loving mother to daughters Ellen, Teresa, and Alicia. Later in life, she welcomed Danielle and David Johnathan.
Throughout her life, Sandy was a hard worker and did many things professionally to provide for her family. She worked for the Forest Service, served as a mail carrier, was part of a construction crew, and worked for the Tecumseh Public School District and Seminole State College, where she retired.
After retirement, she was able to concentrate on her true passion: the ministry work. Baptized on March 10, 1973, it was always her intention to become a willing worker for her god, Jehovah. Psalms 110:3 says, "Your people will offer themselves willingly on the day of your military force..." and she heeded the call. She pioneered with the Tecumseh congregation for many years.
Sandy had the privilege of attending the Pioneer Service School multiple times. She also enjoyed working on Regional Building Committee projects and volunteering to work unassigned territory. Her devotion to Jehovah was clear in all she did.
In addition to her love for Jehovah, Sandy also loved life's simple joys. Some of her favorite things were growing flowers, taking in strays, spending time in nature, road trips, photography, bird watching, and of course, spending time with her family and friends whom she loved dearly.
Her home was a clear reflection of her heart, filled with flowers, and every letter, school picture, child’s drawing, report card, wedding invitation, thank you note, get well note, along with maps, trinkets from her adventures, and photos of her loved ones, showing how deeply she cared for those around her.
Sandy is survived by her daughters Ellen Vasquez and Danielle Abbott, her brother Gene Anthony, her sister Shary Anthony, her sister-in-law Viletta Anthony, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed.
Thank you to all of our family and friends for joining us in celebrating the life of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. We greatly appreciate all the stories and memories you have shared. Words cannot express our gratitude for the love and kindness our mother has received from you through the years.
In lieu of sympathy cards, we kindly ask that you instead share a favorite story about our mom. We also request that any plants or floral arrangements be live so we can plant them in her memory. These may be sent to her home at 19707 Brangus Rd, Shawnee, Oklahoma 74801.
