Reta Jean Hurst

Reta Jean Hurst, longtime Maud, Oklahoma resident, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2025 at her home in Maud at the age of 73.

Reta was born September 16, 1951 in Seminole, Oklahoma to James W. "Red" and Norma Jean (Brackin) Hurst. She graduated from Maud High School in 1969. Reta attended the University of Oklahoma where she was a proud member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. She also attended Northeast Oklahoma University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma and Kansas City University. 

Reta was a chemist at Mobil Chemical Company in Shawnee for several years. She also briefly taught at Maud High School. 

One of Reta’s passions was sewing for her friends and family. She was also a gourmet cook. Reta enjoyed volunteering for Alpha Gamma Delta and often spoke fondly of her many sorority sisters. Reta will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Surviving Reta are her sisters, Jamie Cupp of Norman, Oklahoma and Gracie Guinn of Monkey Island, Oklahoma; brother Russell Laxson of Oklahoma City; nieces and nephews, Jered Guinn of Oklahoma City, Jake Guinn of Monkey Island, Jeani Cupp Copeland of Aledo, TX, Franci Cupp Pittman of the Philippines and Trevor Cupp of Norman. Reta is also survived by a host of cousins, many friends and her Alpha Gamma Delta sorority sisters all over the world.

Reta was preceded in death by her parents, James W. "Red" Hurst and Norma Jean Hurst.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of OK Cremation & Funeral Home, Oklahoma City.
