Odis DeWayne “Wayne” McCray, lifelong Shawnee resident, passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at his home at the age of 67.
He was born November 15, 1948 in Shawnee to Denver Odis and Inas (Bristow) McCray.
Wayne married Ruby (King) on July 5, 1966 in Seminole, OK.
He owned and operated Odis Farm and Auto in Shawnee for several years. Wayne was a well-known mechanic and worked in and around the Shawnee area at John Deere and later at Allen Bradley (TDK) as a Senior Maintenance Specialist. He loved working on just about anything mechanical and also loved woodworking. He enjoyed telling jokes, especially preacher jokes. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandkids.
Wayne also pastored a church in Shawnee and one in Wewoka as well as evangelizing throughout many of the neighboring states.
He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Ruby of the home; Dustin VanDusen and Kashlynn Willson of the home; four daughters, Cathy Thresher and husband Barney of Wewoka, Sherri McCray of Shawnee, Angela Kelly and husband Steve of Tecumseh and Sharon Parker and husband David of Campbell, MO; one son, Denver McCray and wife Jennifer of Earlsboro; four sisters, Bertha Anderson of Tecumseh, Leavetta Reeves and husband Donald of Davenport, Donna Davis and husband Alden of Shawnee and Delores McElfresh and husband Jack of Shawnee; one brother, Gary McCray and wife Joy of Shawnee; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and many, many beloved family and friends.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; one son, George Michael McCray and one great-granddaughter, Karma Thompson.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 10:00 AM at the Bethel Temple Full Gospel Church, 1102 E. 9th St, Shawnee with Pastors Jim Rutter and Jim Noble officiating.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 20 from 10:00 AM-6:00 PM at OK Cremation and Funeral Home, 2415 N. Walnut Ave, Okla. City.
Memorial contributions or flowers may be sent to the family home at 149 S. Osage Ave, Shawnee, 74801.
Services are under the direction of OK Cremation and Funeral Home, Oklahoma City.
