Mary Annette Wolf Clendenin
DOB: 01/04/39 Died: 02/11/16
Mary was born to Felix Gregory and Martha Randall Wolf, the third of seven children. In 1955, she married James P. Clendenin. She was proud to belong to one of the founding families in Sacred Heart Catholic Parish, and to be the last Wolf child born at home. She delighted in telling stories from her father’s tenure as chief of the Oklahoma City Fire Department, and of time spent on the Wolf family farm in the company of her beloved Aunt Aurelia Wolf. She attended Mount St. Mary High School, and raised her four children: Ann, Cathy, Jim and Steve, in Sacred Heart Parish.
While most of her life was spent raising her four children, Mary also discovered a passion for pottery, and received training at the Oklahoma Arts Center. Together, she and her husband, James, built a pottery studio at home. For some years, the two enjoyed travelling to regional arts festivals, showing and selling her work. She was justifiably proud of her ability to throw porcelain- a difficult wheel technique to master. Her children treasure the many dishes and art works she created during those years.
Mary died peacefully at Oklahoma University Hospital of congestive heart failure. As death approached, she was able to say many important goodbyes. She was surrounded by her children, who remained with her until her last breath, telling stories of their lives with her, and reminiscing about her travels to the southwest, and to Paris, France. She is survived by her beloved husband, James, and her four children, Ann Clendenin (Lydia A. Moore, d. 1996), Cathy Hammarsten (Richard A.), Jim Clendenin (Paula Radosevich, d. 2016) and Steve Clendenin (Karol), as well as their childen, Krystal Launius (Brandon), Casey Clendenin and two great-grandchildren, Breanna and Payton Launius. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the lights of her life. She is also survived by her siblings, Robert Wolf (Peggy), Theresa Furlong (Thomas), Janet Wolf, Sharon Lafferty (James) and Richard Wolf. She was preceded in death by her parents, Felix and Martha, and by her sister, Michelle Queen.
