Kathryn “Kat” Rohelia McConnell-Johnson went to be with our Lord, on May 19, 2024, after an extended illness.
Born in Tatums, Oklahoma on August 27, 1942, to Tom McConnell, Jr. and Viola Mae Hooks, Kathryn was the youngest of four girls, Jeannette Hooks, Geneva Dalton, Mae Ella Fulps. Both parents, and two siblings, Geneva Dalton, and Mae Ella Fulps, preceded her in death.
Kathryn accepted Christ at an early age. She attended Cole Junior High and graduated from Tatums High School then pursued a degree in Psychology from Langston University. Her career accomplishments include KOCO-TV, OSBI Tech 11 and retiring from Western Electric/Lucent Technology/AT&T after 35 years as a 5ESS supervisor.
Kathryn was a fashionista. She was awarded the “No Longer Invisible Recipient” from the Special Friends of Ralph Ellison Library recognized for her community services. She was a volunteer for Big Brothers Big Sisters. She was Worthy Matron for the Eastern Stars. While a member of Faith Memorial Baptist Church she was participated with the choir and president of the Women’s Missionary Society. She worked several years planning the Tatums All School Reunion.
Kathryn enjoyed traveling, cake decorating, modeling, and attending plays at the Yellow Rose Theater. She was an excellent cook, especially known for her desserts. Kathryn was also, an avid bid whist, spades, and heart card player.
Kathryn leaves to cherish her memories daughters Karen Postell and Lapeania Hall of Oklahoma City, and son Elbert L. Jones, Jr. of Oklahoma City, grandchildren Crystal Postell, Curtis Postell, Steven Postell, Lateesha Hunter, Lance Hunter, Princess Jones, and numerous great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins; coworkers that she was blessed to have in her life and a host of devoted and committed friends.
