Joe spent his entire career in the field of Ophthalmology. He began his career making glasses at an Optical Shop before attending Baylor University where he received his degree as an Ophthalmic Technician. He owned and operated an Optical Shop in Midwest City before transitioning to the VA Hospital as an Ophthalmic Technician where he became passionate about Veterans.
Joe is remembered as a fanatical OU sports fan and held season football tickets for 30 years. He was an avid runner and loved running marathons, strength training, volleyball, camping and hiking. He also enjoyed yard work, tinkering in his garage and swimming with grandkids.
Joe is reunited with his father, Chester Stevens Venard; mother, Faye Venard Chambers and brother Jefferson Stevens Venard. Those left to lovingly cherish his memories are his wife, Barbara; son, Navy Veteran Micah; daughter, Andrea; granddaughter Payton; grandson Aiden; brother Jim; sister Linda and many nieces and nephews.
The family sends gratitude for the outpouring of love and support from friends and loved ones. Joe’s wishes were to be celebrated privately with family. The family has chosen not to have a service. If you wish to express your love or condolences, please sign the online guestbook. If you choose to send flowers, please specify the family member of your choice. Joe’s daughter, Andrea, has expressed her wish for you to donate to your local veterans charity since Joe was so eagerly proud of our American Veterans.
