Jane Lucille Garthoeffner

Jane Lucille Garthoeffner, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2024, at the age of 93.

Jane was the eldest daughter of Robert Throdahl and Lucille Hansen. Jane’s first marriage produced three sons, Robert, Sam and Peter. Jane's devotion to her family was evident in her endless support of her sons and grandchildren’s endeavors.

In 1978, Jane married the love of her life, William (Bill) Garthoeffner. Their 42-year marriage was a testament to their deep love and mutual respect.   

A defender of those in need, at age 62 Jane completed a Masters In Social Work in 1974 and followed with a PhD in Human Environmental Sciences in 1992. Her compassionate and firm commitment to social justice and fairness was evident in all the causes and people she supported. Jane had a vibrant personality and a wide array of interests. Jane was an avid gardener, so much so that she was recognized as a Master Gardener through the OSU Extension program. She was a voracious reader, she loved the outdoors and hiking along trails in the Wichita Mountains with her grandson Philip. Jane enjoyed traveling, exploring new places, and experiencing different cultures. Most of all, she loved sitting at the kitchen table with her family and listening to their adventures.
 
She is survived by her sons, Sam (Lyn Adams) Gresham & Peter (Amy) Gresham; her grandchildren, Molly, Joe, Philip, Daniel, Mollie and Billy, great-grandchildren Oliver, Skye, Ari, Milo and beloved niece Hollis Price. Also, numerous friends each with a special place in her life and heart. Jane was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill, son Bob, grandson Ben and sister Mary Ann.

Jane's warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for her family and friends will be deeply missed. Her legacy of compassion and dedication to social justice will continue to inspire all who knew her.  Special thanks to her wonderful supportive friends of the Woke Book Club, Bark of the Town Doggy Day Care, Bruce and Barbara, Ken and Archie, and Carolyn.

Jane’s family will hold a private celebration her life.
