Jan Shelton, 73, of Oklahoma City, passed away peacefully on February 20th, 2025 in his home.
Jan was born on August 8, 1951, and raised by Clyde and Gwen Shelton, the most loving parents he could have asked for. After Jan graduated from Putnam City High School in 1970, he joined and served in the Coast Guard before moving back to Oklahoma to help care for his parents.
Jan lived his life as a free spirit, surrounding himself with people he loved and creating art from the things around him. Jan’s sculptures and pieces were never about making money - he created things to share with people and always preferred to have one of his pieces in a loving home with someone who could see the same beauty that he did. His art has been in galleries across the United States, and Jan will continue to live on and bring joy to those of us who are lucky enough to have been gifted some of his work.
Jan’s art was inspired by his love of cars and motorcycles. He was well known for his unique cars around Oklahoma City, often spotted driving anything from street-legal buggies to trucks with hand-sewn animal print interiors. Jan shared his love for cars with his daughter and son-in-law, and no visit to the historic car festival would be the same without him there.
Jan was predeceased in death by his mother and father. He is survived by his daughter Savanna Myer and son-in-law Jesse Myer.
Services will be held at 2415 N Walnut Ave, Oklahoma City on Monday, March 3rd at 1pm. In place of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, in tribute to Jan’s time served.
