James”Jim” Harrison Hurlburt passed away of natural causes on July 28, 2015 at his home on the family ranch south of Elmore City, Oklahoma at the age of 54.
He was born August 24, 1960 in Manhattan, Kansas, the son of Doctors John and Anna Klena Hurlburt.
A former resident of Lawrence, Kansas, Jim graduated from Riley County High School in 1978 and attended Kansas State University. He worked primarily on the family ranches in Riley, Council Grove and eventually the ranch near Elmore City.
Jim was an accomplished violin and fiddle player. In 1986 he won the fiddle portion of the annual Kansas state fiddling and picking contest held in Lawrence, Kansas. He enjoyed jamming with his friends within the musical community.
He is survived by his son, Liam Hurlburt and former wife Dana Price of Albuquerque, New Mexico; his sisters, Kathleen Caster and husband Dewey of Riley, Kansas and Mary Steffen and husband Nick of Conway Springs, Kansas; one niece and five nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Daniel.
Cremation services are planned with internment in Kansas at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of OK Cremation and Funeral Home, Oklahoma City.
