James Bernace was born December 13, 1927 in Bordeaux, Tennessee. Our mother, Florence Kirkpatrick later married Luther Puckett who adopted him. Our Grandmother nicknamed him "Pip". The family lived in Nashville prior to relocating on Oklahoma.
James seemed to excel in everything in school, he even graduated valedictorian. The only thing he never mastered was clock making. He would take our clocks apart but could never seem to get them back together!
After graduating high school, James eventually joined the Air Force with the hope of being a paratrooper. That didn't pan out because he couldn't stop himself from thinking "what if the ripcord doesn't open?"
During this time, he and Christine Gordon were united in matrimony. To this union, was born one child, Bernadette.
James changed branches of the military from the Air Force to the Army where he worked in communications, which better suited him. He served for 25 years and retired as a sergeant.
After retirement, he had several jobs including a position at the pentagon.
Later, James moved to Thailand to live with our brother Luther "LD". He lived in Thailand for several years before coming back to the United States and settling down in Dover, DE with our brother Luther and his family.
After our brother passed, Pip came to live with me and remained with me until he became ill and had to be hospitalized. He became quite gruff in his old age due in part to the pain and frustration because of his physical limitations as he suffered from Parkinson's Disease.
To love him you had to know him, and we did! To God Be the Glory
