James “Jim” Walter Burrell was born on September 28, 1946, in Clayton, Georgia and died at his home in Norman, Oklahoma on April 13, 2024, with his wife by his side.
Anyone who knew Jim knew he was proud of his military service; he served first in the Air Force and then in the Coast Guard where he served as a Search and Rescue Air Crewman. He retired in 1994 from the VA Hospital to start his own elevator business, E.C.A. Elevator from which he later retired from and sold both business and home in Oklahoma City and moved to Lake Thunderbird.
Jim was a loving husband and father but his greatest joy was his grandchildren whether by blood or “adopted” and they knew all it took was a phone call and he could be counted on to take them to school by way of their favorite breakfast spot or be picked up from school and taken to eat, once again their choice, and to get a treat or a toy, weekends were trips to the flea market or auction. He took pride in knowing that his family and friends knew he could be counted on to be there if they ever needed anything.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Martha Burrell, brother Leemon Burrell, and grandson Christopher Miller.
Jim is survived by his wife of 43 years, Louise Burrell, four sons James Jr. (Diane), Raymond (Jennifer), Brian (Ginger), and James Huber (Micki), six grandchildren Luke, Max, Christian, Daniel, Ryan, and Kayla, four great grandchildren Colton, Natalie, Colin, and Liam, siblings Linda Pendley, Kathy (Tommy) Ryder, and Joe (Veronica) Burrell as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, also Jospeh Dunn, Gabriella Rios, and Nathaniel Kenner whom Jim loved and treated as he did his own grandchildren, and longtime friends Nick Pittman and Rick Dunn.
