Our Lord God has welcomed home His child, Doris Louise (Godwin) Bradway on Sunday, January 19, 2025, peacefully, surrounded by her loving family. Doris was born February 23, 1946 to Edward Dallie Godwin and Dorothy (Beasley) Godwin in Oklahoma City. She was the eldest of seven children to this union.
Prior to starting her own beloved family, Doris graduated from Putnam City High School in 1964. She then went on to graduate nursing school, working nights at Deaconess Hospital for a spell until God led her to Russell Murray Hospice. There, she served with compassion until her “retirement.”
An active and energetic woman, Doris never did fully retire, continuing to visit and sit with “her patients” until the day she no longer could. In 1966, God chose Robert “Bob” Lynn Bradway, Sr. to be her husband. Their love story began while working together at the Jim Thorpe building in Oklahoma City. They were blessed with three sons: Robert Jr., Richard, and Marc.
They raised their family in Yukon, where Doris and Bob supported their sons’ many extracurricular activities. Doris spent 20 years serving as a Scout leader. She expressed how proud she was of her sons for achieving Eagle Scout status. Doris was known locally by some as “The Flower Lady,” because of her lush home gardens.
After “retirement,” she became a Master Gardener. Her unique gardens served as a source of wonder and learning for many of the local school children who once came to tour the grounds on field trips. Most of all, Doris enjoyed spending genuine quality time with her beloved grandchildren and great grands, taking them to church, on camping trips, afternoon fishing, thrifting, baking and cooking at home and playing endless rounds of “Nerts” around the dining table. She was an avid photographer and seasoned traveler, having trekked across the U.S. and to parts abroad with Bob.
Overall, her favorite place was at her home, in Yukon, with her beloved family to whom she was affectionally known as “Oma.”
Doris is survived by her husband of 58 years, Robert Lynn Bradway, Sr., their children Robert L. Jr., Richard, and Marc; as well as her siblings Dallie, Lora, Timmy, and Eddie. Oma was dearly loved by her many grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Bobby and Kenny.
The Bradway family extends their deepest appreciation for the care received through the Russell-Murray Hospice team as well as the caring staff at Hennessey Manor Nursing Home during her valiant battle with Alzheimer’s. Additionally, we extend our sincere thanks to the Yukon Fire and EMS departments for their swift, efficient responses along the journey as well. We also thank the Canadian County Cowboy Church, of which she was a member.
Per Doris’s wishes, the Bradway family requests that donations be made to Russell-Murray Hospice, 221 S. Bickford Avenue, El Reno, OK 73036.
