Roger Richard Laferriere

Roger Richard Laferriere, 87 of Plano, TX. Born November 19, 1934, in Lowell, MA and passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on May 29, 2022. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years Barbara Anne Shea Laferriere. He is Survived by his two daughters Anne & Paula, his son Colin & wife Julie. His two granddaughters Katie & Sam as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents: Rose (Descheneaux) & Charles O. Laferriere, Brother: Roderick Laferriere, sisters: Edna Greenwood and Pauline Hamel.

Roger was a graduate of Lowell Trade School. He then entered the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1956. In October of 1958, he and Barbara wed and moved to Dracut, MA to start their family. Roger was as an experimental machinist at AVCO in Lowell, MA where he worked on all the Gemini and Apollo Spacecrafts.

In 1976, the family moved from Dracut, MA to Texas City, TX where Roger worked for Monsanto and Sterling Chemical Company until retiring. In their retirement, Roger and Barbara moved to Plano, TX to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Roger was an avid outdoorsman. He loved camping, canoeing, mountain climbing and hunting. He and his family spent many summers enjoying the outdoors on Ossipee Lake in NH. Roger was a member of the Down River Canoe Club in Dallas, TX and enjoyed many canoe trips around the Dallas Area.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Roger’s name to either of these nonprofit organizations: Saving Hope Rescue or The Arbor Day Foundation (Links can be found below) in recognition for his love of the outdoors, animals, and national forests.

Roger and Barbara Laferriere will be laid to rest on Monday, July 11, 2022, at 11:15 am at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX 75211.
